Feasting on God’s Word

This past week, we were blessed to sit at the feet of six different proclaimers of God’s word. Each presented a bountiful feast from the riches of God’s truth. Each lesson stirred our minds to serious thought (2 Peter 3:1) and therefore benefited us in marvelous, spiritual ways! (Romans 8:6) – but only if we truly FEASTED on this truth!

As a noun, the word “feast” means “an elaborate and usually abundant meal often accompanied by a ceremony or entertainment.” There was no entertainment involved: we were engaged in worship, where we give homage to God while learning more of His word (John 4:24). Nonetheless, there were eight elaborate and abundant meals from God’s word bountifully presented for our spiritual partaking (Matthew 5:6), A brother in Christ would often pray, “We thank Thee Father for this bountiful feast, and beg that Thou wilt allow us to return to feast again very soon.” Indeed, we went home full, and by the next evening, we enjoyed another tremendous meal of truth and righteousness!

Can you get too much of a wonderful thing? Perhaps in the temporal world, but never from spiritual things! In fact, with recordings of these sermons and several others, meals of this type are available every minute of every day and nourish our souls just as fervently and generously as when we first heard these messages. More importantly, the study of God’s word, even without listening to these or other gospel preachers preaching, renews us daily (2 Corinthians 4:16).

Today, right now – whether the first day of the week or any other day of the week – TODAY, you will eat something to nourish the body. But the BODY is not eternal – the SOUL is (Ecclesiastes 12: 1 – 7). Feed that soul with GOD’S word! Nourish it, cleanse it with the washing of water by the word (Ephesians 5:26), and muse on it constantly. It is the best feasting you will ever do!
