Mike’s Musings …

There Are Still Things to Do

“The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.” Jeremiah 8:20

Winter often signifies an ending, with its cold capable of shutting down roads, schools, businesses, and even canceling favorite activities like concerts, plays, sports, and family events. Many of these are not just postponed but entirely canceled. As the prophet states, “The harvest is past, the summer is ended.” If we do not prepare for winter during the other seasons, the consequences are our own responsibility.

We all can list things we intended to accomplish but did not. We might try excusing their incompleteness by saying, “It’s been waiting on me for years, and another one won’t hurt much,” but the truth is, we still left something undone. Granted, the temporal items might wait, but the incomplete spiritual items remain dangerously imposing upon our eternity!

Other than sharing God’s truth with souls and demonstrating it through our living His truth (Colossians 3:17), I know of no other way to convince souls of the urgency to make their calling and election sure (cf. 2 Peter 1:10). The day of our Lord’s return is set (Acts 17:31), God did not reveal to us that date, but repeated commands all souls to prepare for its arrival. Further, the Hebrew writer informs us that “it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27) The time of our physical death is unknown. Therefore, the time of preparation is NOW (2 Corinthians 6:2). The question is, “Are you prepared?”

I muse on the fact that some believe they are ready to meet Christ at judgment, but that confidence is built on “hopeful convictions” rather than God’s truth! Thinking your salvation is secure is one thing; knowing it is secure is quite another! (2 Peter 1:10) Time is not guaranteed: judgment is! Are you absolutely sure you have done what you must do to dwell eternally with God? If not, why not?
