Preachers of the Gospel
If the Lord is willing, our gospel meeting begins one week from today. The men we have asked to participate in this effort are all well-experienced in proclaiming Christ and Him crucified. I would like to introduce you to these men of faith.
GARY FISCUS – Gary has preached the gospel for well over fifty years, most recently working with the Spencer church of Christ, and every other week with the West Second Street church of Christ in Bloomington, IN. Gary is a prolific writer of spiritual truth, having published his work locally through “Morgan Street Memos.” FAITH AND FACTS, and other publications. His three lessons for this series bear the theme, YOU AIN’T SEEN NOTHIN’ YET, referring to the eternal beauties God has promised to the faithful.
ROGER SHOUSE – Roger works with the Charlestown Road church of Christ, New Albany, IN. He is also one of their shepherds. Roger’s daily publication of JUMP START, a daily “spark of life-giving truth for the soul,” challenges your spiritual thoughts for the day. Roger has been preaching for years and has been very influential in encouraging other men, including his son, to become gospel preachers. His lesson title is DIRECTIONS.
JEREMY GOEN – Jeremy has been working with the Lord’s church in Pekin, IN the past several years, and serves as one of their elders. Jeremy’s preaching includes a radio broadcast every Lord’s Day morning. He remains busy with teaching bible studies each week. Jeremy’s lesson for our effort is THE NEW BIRTH AND THE GOSPEL.
JAMES HAHN – James is the oldest of the men we have requested for this week’s effort. James worked for many years with the Belleville church of Christ, near Clayton, IN. He then moved to the Salem, IN area, and until the death of his dear wife, served as an elder with the Westside church of Christ, Salem, IN. His several decades of preaching have found his preaching in several places, not only as the local preacher, but also as the guest evangelist for gospel meetings. His knowledge and wisdom add strength to all who hear him. His lesson title is DANGERS WE FACE.
BRADLEY PHILIPS – Brad is the youngest of the preachers we have asked for this effort, but he is certainly not inexperienced! Brad worked with the Lord’s church in Crawfordsville, IN, then with the Belleville church of Christ (working with James Hahn, who served as an elder at Belleville), and presently works with the Lord’s church at Greencastle, IN. Brad has a genuine passion for preaching Christ and Him and has prepared for us a lesson entitled SOME URGENT NEEDS IN THE LORD’S CHURCH TODAY.
BRIAN PERRY – Brian is not a “located preacher” but rather makes his living for his family as the principal of Georgetown Elementary School, Georgetown, IN. This position allows him to exemplify Christ to several students and staff members daily: one of the largest “audiences” any preacher could enjoy! He also serves as one of the elders at the Eastview church of Christ, Salem, IN. Brian spoke here at Orleans on “fifth Sundays.” His lessons were stimulating, and he used the evening service to present his lessons with singing various psalms, hymns, or spiritual songs to confirm the message he delivered. His planned lesson for this series has the intriguing title DO YOU FROG.
Prayerfully, you note these men are seasoned veterans in the army of Christ Jesus. They wield that two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12) with skill and purpose. Therefore, what they have planned to say to us (October 5 – 10) will be quite beneficial to the edification of our souls. For that reason, we encourage all of you to be in attendance for these spiritual feasts.
